Making Decisions II

Genesis 36
The 4 week teachings at church is based on decision making
The first week instructs as to
1) Ask yourself why you are really doing it.
Example, when you smoke… ask your subconscious mind…why are you doing it?
A boy & girl decides to live together. They say its for financial reasons, then they break up.
Ask yourself, why are you really doing it?

For every decision you make today
Will be part of a story you tell
About your life

The story you write about yourself…

And if you write the story of your life
Let it not be something
You would need to lie about (be embarrassed)
For the rest of your life.

In other words, make good decisions
2) Last Sunday’s preaching was about the story of Joseph and his seven brothers
Joseph was the favorite son of his father.
And his brothers were jealous

One day, while his brothers were out on the field,
His father asked him to bring them food.
When his brothers saw him coming,
They had an unusual conversation
They were making a decision if they should kill him
Or should they make money out of him and sell him as a slave to the merchants.
They decided to sell him
And went home to tell his father he was killed by a wild animal.

When Joseph was sold as a slave
He had to make a decision.
To complain and be rebellious
Or to do well.
He did well.
He did his job so well that his master gave him all responsibility of his household
That the only thing his master needed to do
Was eat well.

Joseph was a handsome lad
And his master had a wife.
His wife asked Joseph to go to bed with her.
But he told her “no”.
(we do not know if his wife was beautiful or not)
He told her that his master gave him all responsibility
And did not want to break the trust bestowed upon him.

But one day, his master’s wife framed him
And they were caught by his master.
His wife cried that she was being raped…
Despite his cries of explanation,
He was thrown in jail.

One day, the king of Egypt had a dream
And nobody could interpret his dream.
One of his servants told him about Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams
The king called upon Joseph,
And Joseph interpreted his dream
His dream meant that a famine was coming that would last 7 years
And he needed to save grains
So that they keep stock for the famine.

The king did as Joseph stated.
And when famine did occur, they were the only ones who had food in the area.
And the king made him prime minister
In charge of everything in Egypt.

One day his brothers went to Egypt to buy food
And Joseph recognized them,
And when they were about to go home
Placed a vessel in one of his brothers packs , Benjamin

Joseph pretended his vessel was stolen
And had his soldiers come after his brothers
And when they were searched
They found the vessel amongst them

Joseph had them put in jail for theft.

Then he talked to them
And when they realized who he was,
They greatly rejoiced.

And went home and told his father
That Joseph was alive
And they came to live in Egypt.

The story shows how Joseph made good decisions
That eventually paid off.
Despite his bad circumstance of being sold as a slave
He served his masters well.
If he did otherwise,
The story of his life would be otherwise.

The decisions you make today
Is a story you tell tomorrow.
Make decisions that you would not need to lie about
For it will be a story
A story you wrote yourself

Love, Mom
